SITE S.p.A. builds Ericsson 3G network for Mobilis

In 2013 Ericsson chose SITE S.p.A. to build its 3G network for Mobilis in Algeria. Thanks to its skills and years of experience in the field, SITE worked on this turnkey project to implement radio mobile sites in 3G technology in Wilayas affiliated with Mobilis, one of the main mobile operators in Algeria.


Mobilis, una delle compagnie telefoniche più importanti presenti in Algeria, ha deciso di adottare la tecnologia Ericsson per costruire la nuova rete 3G ed eseguire l’upgrade dei siti 2G preesistenti. Ericsson è una multinazionale svedese con sede a Stoccolma che opera in 180 paesi e fornisce tecnologie e servizi di comunicazione, software e infrastrutture in ambito ICT a operatori di telecomunicazioni, pubblica amministrazione e altre industrie. Ericsson è tra le compagnie che hanno maggiormente contribuito allo sviluppo dell’industria delle telecomunicazioni, in passato con l’invenzione del Bluetooth e ora collocandosi tra i leader del 5G.


Mobilis, one of the three major mobile operators in Algeria, chose to adopt Ericsson technology to build their new 3G sites and upgrade the existing 2G sites. Ericsson is a Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company based in Stockholm. The company sells infrastructure, software and services in information and communications technology for telecommunications service providers and enterprises, including, among others, 3G, 4G and 5G equipment, and Internet Protocol (IP) and optical transport systems. Ericsson has been a major contributor to the development of the telecommunications industry: it is known as the inventor of Bluetooth technology and is one of the leaders in 5G.


The project aimed to build 3G radio mobile networks. In order to do this, SITE S.p.A. carried out the following activities for Ericsson:

  • Drive Test for radio design;
  • Research and sites acquisition;
  • Requesting and obtaining permits;
  • Support for civil works;
  • Designing the infrastructure for radio mobile networks;
  • Installation, testing and commissioning BTSs;
  • UPS (Power and Battery Cabinet PBC 6200) installation;
  • 1800 Mhz broadband
  • 2G mono-band antennas were replaced with dual-band or tri-band antennas
  • Integration and configuration of Radio and Broadcast sites
  • On-site commissioning of Transmission and Radio nodes
  • Integration of OMC RNC transmission and radio nodes


SITE built 332 new sites and 77 upgrades/swaps in 3G technology, according to Ericsson’s Radio Design and KPIs. Here are the results achieved by SITE in each Wilaya:
